The Conference on Neural Information Processing Systems (NeurIPS) is a machine learning and computational neuroscience conference held every December. This year, the Clarifai team was excited to not only be in attendance but to also see our CEO Matt Zeiler speak during the conference.

The panel focused on how to commercialize AI research and also featured Katya Kudashkina who is the Founder and CEO of Cultura.ai and Javad Shafiee from the University of Waterloo. The discussion was moderated by Jon French from Next Canada.

Attendees got to hear the ups and downs of building a startup from entrepreneurs who passed up job security and big salaries for founder freedom and all that comes with it. During the discussion, Matt shared the story of starting Clarifai five years ago and answered audience questions like how to identify initial customers or navigate the world of intellectual property with universities.
